Going vegan can help people with diabetes

One small study found that a vegan (low-fat) diet can ease the physical pain caused by the type 2 diabetes. This is a new hope for people who suffer from this disease. Many of the type 2 diabetes eventually develop peripheral diabetic neuropathy. This cause numbness, burning and pain in their extremities. There are no treatments or drugs for this state, so patients must live with the pain!

Now, researchers found that living a healthy life, by removing oily foods and animal products from your diet, has even more benefits for people with type 2 diabetes. This can make your pain go away or at least reduce it. 

The most common type of diabetes is the type 2. In this form, our cells are resistant to the insulin or our body doesn’t make enough of this hormone. This disease interferes with the nerves and signals between the brain and the rest of the body. Because of this, it can affect on touch, temperature and pain. Antidepressants and anti-seizure medications can be used to prevent nerve pain, but they have a lot of side effects.

The study included 35 adults. All of them had a type 2 diabetes. 17 participants were on a low fat diet and they took B12 supplements. They have been taking them 20 weeks. The 18 participants were on a regular diet, but they also took B12 supplements. The vegan diet included grains, legumes, fruits and vegetables. All of the 17 participants avoided animal products. After 20 weeks, they lost 15 pounds. This group also reported less pain and improvements in their health. Further analysis showed that vegan died show or stopped the degeneration of nerves.
